Small Business Success
What Is Needed To Achieve It
The world is full of small business success stories. The pessimists will look at the number of small businesses that fail, however, looking at failed businesses is not the best source for inspiration. Instead, it is much more helpful to look at the many small business success stories. One reason for this is that you can never separate a small business success from the individuals that drove such success. This not only allows you to model such a person, it also provides clear insight into the traits needed for small business success. And, yes, these small business success traits are critical to duplicate. But, what are these traits?
Self Motivation
One of the most important traits an entrepreneur needs for small business success is the ability to be a self starter. That is, the individual must possess the ability to motivate him/herself to get the job done. The individual does not need anyone prodding to do what is needed to carry a task to completion. The individual is capable of discovering what type of tasks need to be performed and then takes the first steps to make sure these tasks are done and done right. Since an entrepreneur does not work for anyone else, there will be no supervisor guiding him on what needs to be done. For someone who understands what is needed for small business success, there will be no need for such oversight. They understand all responsibilities lie within them and immediately take charge. This is why small business success is never elusive to these individuals.
Level Headedness and Patience
Level-headedness is also critical for small business success. No matter what type of small business you operate, business will have its ebbs and flows. That means sometimes business will be strong and other times it will be weak. Unfortunately, there will be instances where business hits a sharp down cycle. In order to maintain small business success during such a time period, it is critical that the small business owner does not hit the panic button or quit too easily. Often, a little patience and a levelheaded approach is all that is needed to get a back on the right track.
Innovative Thinking
Another of the main keys to small business success is the ability to recognise trends and provide innovation. Many decades ago, a man named Ray Kroc noticed that there were very few restaurants on local highways that catered to people on the go. He opted to launch a restaurant that only provided menu items that could be quickly made and offered “to go” easily. Many scoffed at Kroc and asserted that the only restaurants that could possibly succeed were those that followed the traditional “sit down” approach. Kroc ignored the advice and went along with his instincts. The end result is one of the greatest small business success stories ever told. Kroc’s concept was not only successful, it grew to epic proportions. You see, Kroc was the mind behind McDonald’s.
Flexibility
Small business success always means knowing when it is time to reorganise. Success does not mean hanging in there while losing money and hoping for a turnaround. No, it requires the foresight to radically alter a business plan or strategy when the current module is no longer yielding small business success. More than anything else, entrepreneurs are flexible. They know when it is time to change directions or stop what they are doing outright. Yes, small business success sometimes means knowing when to cut your losses.
Entrepreneurship
Finally, those that can ride the tide for small business success love entrepreneurial pursuits. Some individuals are more suited for a “regular job” working for someone else. If that is their bag, fine. They are not cut out for the model of small business success. However, for those that truly do love working for themselves, small business success is a foregone conclusion. They would not have it any other way.
